A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT TO CELEBRATE IN SYDNEY
A mix of Sydney’s most notable food, design and style media recently turned out in force to celebrate the launch of Smeg’s new collection of small appliances.
The amazing celebration was held in the heritage listed sandstone Cell Block Theatre in inner Sydney’s Darlinghurst within the National Art School precinct. The luxe styling incorporated into the theatre and adjoining romantic courtyard was inspired by the opulence of Lake Como villas, both capturing Smeg’s northern Italian heritage and providing a gorgeous backdrop to showcase Smeg’s new small appliance collection.
The nearly one hundred guests were greeted at dusk in the courtyard with glasses of Italian wine, Peroni beer and Aperol Spritz cocktails. A wheel of Smeg’s parmigiano reggiano cheese, Montecoppe, took centre stage alongside the marble Aperol Spritz bar. Lanterns with twinkling lights suspended in the trees completed the welcoming picture.
Handsomely dressed roving waiters served Italian style canapés including Montecoppe and crushed pea bruschetta; figs with gorgonzola dolce and vincotto and arancini with ragout.
As the sky darkened the doors to the theatre opened. Guests entering this space were left spellbound by the gorgeous small appliances displayed against such a breathtaking backdrop.
The theatre’s interior – curved sandstone walls and iron barred windows – provided the perfect canvas to showcase the opulently styled appliances, reminiscent of a gorgeous Italian villa.
Guests loved the theatre and took great delight in photographing the appliances in the luxe surrounds.
The appliances were displayed ingeniously; housed on gold shelving behind the marble bar; grouped on plinths; and the complete collection in panna was placed on a beautiful table with moss.
Later on in the night guests gathered at the dessert bar to watch David O’Brien from caterers Cook & Waiter whip mascarpone for the delicious poached blood plum, limoncello and scorched almond dessert.
It was a beautiful night to celebrate a beautiful collection.
