I WANT TO BE A PART OF IT: SMEG A NEW YORK
New York, New York: the city that never sleeps, immortalised in so many films, celebrated in as many songs, and forever linked to the Italian emigration that made the eclectic and iconic Little Italy the favourite place to live across the pond.
While it is true that the love the Italians have for New York has deep roots, it is just as true that the New Yorkers' fascination for Italy and its products - especially the food - is unrivalled. And it is truly this detail that inspired a recent city event with an entirely Italian theme, organised by the prestigious Midtown Loft & Terrace on 5th Avenue during the Fancy Food fringe event.
For the event, I Love Italian Food, the not-for-profit organisation which aims to spread Italian culinary culture across the world, offered its guests an evening revolving entirely around genuine products with designated posts dedicated to pasta, Parmigiano Reggiano, cured meats and wine. As you would expect, the tasting was a huge success:
However, can you organise an Italian-themed culinary event without including an iconic protagonist like Smeg? Of course not! And so the cooking demonstrations, run by internationally renowned Italian chefs, took place on a work station that was totally Smeg-branded. The efficiency of the oven and the hob and the elegance of the refrigerators, including the unmissable Italian flag fridge were the real cherries on top of an evening that was 100% Made in Italy!
