BRING ROSE QUARTZ AND SERENITY INTO YOUR HOME WITH SMEG
Pantone, the world-renowned authority on colour, announced the colours of 2016 this January and it just so happens that two in particular were already on Smeg’s radar. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said, "Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves." This is such a wonderful statement about what colour can do to us and how it makes us feel. Smeg has always known the impact of colour, and we’re recognised for our bright and beautiful appliances that do more than just function, they delight and inspire. So when we saw that ‘serenity’ and ‘rose quartz’ had been chosen, we couldn’t have agreed more. Smeg’s range of pastel appliances already include a beautiful pink and blue and have been available across our small appliances since 2014. Before that, customers could also get their hands on both blue and pink range cookers, fridges and washing machines.
So why did we see an opportunity for pink appliances all those years ago? The whimsical pale pink is reminiscent of 50’s charm and femininity. The colour is romantic, sweet and fits very well in a retro or vintage style kitchen, a style gaining popularity in the UK. Pantone have describe rose quartz as ‘a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Like a serene sunset, flushed cheek or budding flower, Rose Quartz reminds us to reflect on our surroundings during the busy but light-hearted spring and summer months.’ This is certainly an emotive colour which takes inspiration from nature and now is right on trend for 2016. We’ve always had a place for it in our range and can’t see that changing any time soon.
But it’s not all about being tickled pink, the second colour we already make use of is serenity. Like a perfectly blue summer afternoon sky, Pantone describe the colour as ‘weightless and airy, with a calming effect that brings a feeling of respite even in turbulent times.’ Like the pastel pink, we have been producing blue appliances for a number of years in both the small and large appliance range. The light blue is a popular choice as it adds a splash of colour without drawing too much attention to itself. According to colour psychology, blue is a colour that seeks peace and tranquillity above everything else, promoting both physical and mental relaxation. The paler the blue the more freedom we feel, which can only enhance our experience of cooking, eating and living in our kitchens.
Smeg has always believed that colour enables the consumer to personalise their living space in a way that represents who they are and that this opportunity shouldn’t be restricted to soft furnishings and wall colour. By offering a plethora of choices, we give the consumer the chance to create a space unique to them, a space they can feel relaxed and comfortable in and are proud to show off to the world. Smeg will continue to be at the forefront of appliance colour, taking inspiration from the latest and greatest trends and bringing them into the home through unique style and design.
